How do I apply?
Step one
Complete the online
application form and post the $50 registration fee
and a passport photo to the SPWA office.
Step two SPWA will confirm via e-mail that we have received your application.
Step three
We will contact your referees.
Step four
We will contact you directly and make a time to have an in-depth discussion/interview regarding SPW ideals and the demands of volunteering in a developing country.
Step five
You will be notified as to whether you have been accepted and an official acceptance letter will be posted in the mail.
Step six
You will need to pay a $250 to hold your placement in the SPW programme.
Step seven
SPWA staff regularly consult and meet with accepted applicants to discuss volunteering, fundraising (which begins from time of acceptance until departure) and general preparation for departure (including injections, flights, insurance etc.).
Step eight Attend a 4 day intensive pre-departure training (in Melbourne), which covers the history of development and volunteering, practical advice about placement and living in a developing country, cultural sensitivities, group and teamwork training, case scenarios and problem solving activities, and detailed medical information and equipment requirements. Training also involves guest speakers who provide insight into development work and programs.
Step nine
Pay balance according to payment deadlines.
Step ten
Depart on SPW programme!
