“One activity we set up at our school was a library lesson where the children could come to sit and read quietly.  We believed this was necessary because the existing library was constantly padlocked and the children were never allowed in.  We bought a rug for the floor and it became very popular.  For one little boy it was the best thing in the week.”

SPW reaches 400,000 young people per year at a cost of $11 per child.

Your support and contributions enable SPW to recruit, train and support young local and international volunteers to tackle some of the world's most devastating diseases, such as HIV/AIDS.

It is estimated that a pair of volunteers can reach and empower as many as 3000 young people with life-saving information.

Every dollar counts ….. Donations in action

SPW is high-impact, low-cost. Every dollar donated has an immediate and lasting effect on our programs. Below are some examples of what our volunteers can achieve with your support:

$45
Will fund materials for volunteers to demonstrate the effectiveness of fuel-efficient stoves and allow for the replication of stoves across an entire community. This slows the current rapid depletion of local resources and hence contributes to environmental conservation.

$115
Will fund a community awareness campaign on health / environmental issues. These events reach hundreds of people and are essential to encourage community support and dispel myths and stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.

$235
Will fund one Youth Resource Centre in a school in Zambia , stocked with much-needed youth-friendly information and leaflets printed in the local language, giving approximately 450 students access to crucial health information.

$590
SPW volunteers can enable a women's group to set up their own small income-generating project, such as a pig farm or craft project, giving the community essential income as well as providing financial security and empowerment for women.

$825
Will fund the installation of a Tube Well in Nepal , providing a rural community with essential clean water.

$1,410
SPW can provide training for the staff of one health clinic in the delivery of youth friendly services.

$3,775
Will sponsor an African or Asian volunteer for an eight-month placement to be a peer-educator, teaching in- and out-of-school youth, building links with health clinics and local organisations to provide urgently required services.

$7,080
Will fund a Youth Week run by SPW volunteers for 200 students. These young people will learn how HIV/AIDS is transmitted and prevented and increase their life-skills such as self-esteem and decision-making so they can become active role models in their communities.
