"But how do I raise $10,000!"

It does initially seem a huge amount, particularly if you're studying or have just started out in a new career. However, hundreds of SPW volunteers in the past have managed to raise all of this - and more – by coming up with imaginative funding approaches, original sponsored events, or just though sheer determination and the support of SPW!

As soon as your application is accepted SPW will send you a full, comprehensive fundraising pack, full of ideas and information, and we offer practical advice to all volunteers on how best to fundraise. You'll also get to meet other SPW volunteers and be able to share ideas about raising the money.

In each country the SPW offices devote considerable time to fundraising. This money is used primarily for the indigenous volunteers who need to be recruited, selected, trained and supported during placement. Some of these funds are also used to sustain the organisation.

Fundraising is also a great way to raise awareness. When volutneers talk with their families, friends, sports groups, schools, local businesses and other people in their communities to get financial support, they are also highlighting some of the issues faced by the developing world including HIV and AIDS, poor sanitation, water-borne illnesses and poverty. Volunteers share the experience they are embarking on and in turn educate everyday Australians about these issues and what they can do to help.

So, you would like to go on an SPW program but don't know where you'll get the funds?
Take a lesson from volunteers
that were like you this time last year!
